San Lorenzo Nuovo

San Lorenzo Nuovo, a municipality in the province of Viterbo, is located in Tuscia. This town is situated on the shores of Lake Bolsena, one of the largest volcanic lakes in Europe. The breathtaking views and serene atmosphere make it ideal for a tourist visit.

The history of San Lorenzo Nuovo is fascinating. The current town was founded in 1774 by order of Pope Clement XIV, who relocated the inhabitants of the old village, San Lorenzo alle Grotte, due to malaria.
The architect Francesco Navone designed the new town with a modern and rational urban layout for the time. Europe Square, spacious and central, becomes the focal point around which the main streets of the town develop.

Among the notable monuments, the Church of San Lorenzo Martire stands out, located right in Europe Square. Built in the 18th century, it represents a notable example of neoclassical architecture and houses valuable works of art inside. In the same square, you can find the Town Hall, a significant landmark for the local community.
